Terms of Service

PATRN by The Canvas Shop · version 2026-10-02

Please read these terms. They are the agreement between you and The Canvas Shop ("we", "us") for the PATRN design tool and the cutting and sewing service behind it (together, "PATRN"). By creating an account, placing an order or using PATRN you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use PATRN.

1. Your account

  • You must be 18 or older and give us accurate contact details. Keep your sign-in email secure; what happens under your account is your responsibility until you tell us it has been compromised.
  • One account per person. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms.

2. What PATRN does — and what is on you

  • PATRN turns the measurements and shapes you enter into cutting patterns, and we cut and sew from exactly what you drew. We do not visit the boat. Measuring correctly, choosing the right fabric, allowances and fasteners, and checking the design before you order are your responsibility.
  • Estimates shown in the tool (yardage, layouts, piece counts, prices before checkout) are estimates. The amount charged at checkout is the price.
  • We may flag something that looks wrong, but we are not obliged to, and a flag or the lack of one is not a guarantee of fit.

3. Orders, payment, returns

  • Payment is taken at checkout through Stripe; we never see your full card number. Prices are in US dollars and exclude tax unless shown.
  • Everything we make is custom-cut to your design, so orders cannot be cancelled or returned once cutting has started, except where the fault is ours (we cut something other than your design, or a defect in materials or workmanship). Tell us within 14 days of delivery and we will remake or refund that item at our choice.
  • Delivery dates are estimates. Risk in goods passes to you on delivery to the address you gave.

4. Your designs

  • Your measurements and designs stay yours. You give us a licence to store them, make your order from them, show them back to you, and use them in anonymised form to improve PATRN. We will not publish an identifiable design of yours without asking.
  • You confirm you have the right to use anything you upload (photos, drawings, files) and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

5. Our property — no copying PATRN

PATRN is the product of years of pattern-making know-how. The software, its geometry and unrolling methods, nesting, pricing logic, templates, measuring sheets, wording, graphics, the PATRN name and the look and feel are owned by The Canvas Shop and protected by copyright, trade-secret and trademark law. You get a personal, non-transferable licence to use PATRN to design covers and cushions for your own boat and to order them from us. You agree not to:

  • copy, download, scrape, mirror, frame, decompile, de-minify, reverse engineer or otherwise extract the source code, geometry methods, data, pricing or any part of PATRN, or try to;
  • use PATRN, its output or anything learned from it to build, train, test or improve any competing design tool, pattern service or cutting business, or to produce patterns for sale or for another workshop;
  • use bots, crawlers or automated tools against PATRN, or access it through anything other than the pages we provide;
  • remove or alter any notice, name or branding in PATRN or its exports;
  • resell, rent, sublicense or share your account or PATRN's output beyond your own use.

Anything about how PATRN works that is not public (including what you can see in the browser) is our confidential information. If you break this section, we may close your account, and we may seek an injunction and damages — these are rights we will enforce.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use PATRN for anything unlawful, to interfere with the service or other users, to probe its security, or to send us content that is abusive or infringing.

7. No warranty

PATRN and everything we deliver through it are provided "as is". We do not promise that the tool is error-free, always available, or that a cover designed from your measurements will fit. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all implied warranties, including merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose. Nothing in these terms limits rights the law does not let us limit.

8. Limit on our liability

Our total liability to you for anything arising out of PATRN or an order, however it arises, is limited to the amount you paid us for the order concerned (or, if no order, US $100). We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, lost profits, or damage to a boat or its contents from a cover that does not fit or fails. These limits apply even if we were told the loss was possible.

9. Your indemnity

You will cover us for claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) that come from your breach of these terms, your designs or uploads, or your use of PATRN in a way these terms do not allow.

10. Privacy

We store your name, email, phone, designs, orders and the fact and time you agreed to these terms, to run PATRN and fulfil orders. Payment details are handled by Stripe under its own terms. We do not sell your data. We may email you about your account and orders. You can ask us to delete your account at any time; order records are kept as the law requires.

11. Changes and ending

We can change PATRN or these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app or by email, and your continued use after that is acceptance. You can stop using PATRN at any time; sections 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 and 12 survive. We may suspend or end the service or your account for breach, or with reasonable notice otherwise.

12. Law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of South Carolina, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Before starting any claim you agree to write to us and give us 30 days to resolve it. Any dispute that is not resolved will be brought only in the state or federal courts for Charleston County, South Carolina, and you consent to their jurisdiction — except that we may seek an injunction to protect PATRN in any court. If any part of these terms is unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms are the whole agreement between us about PATRN.

Split the panel into sections (a section every 6–12" is plenty). At each station measure straight from the top edge to the bottom edge (vertical); for each section, the top and bottom lengths along the edges and one diagonal from its top-left to its bottom-right. PATRN lays the triangles out flat — the same as flattening a 3D scan.

Optional: add fabric past one edge — e.g. 3" down over the rub rail.
